I've been having dinner, lunch, working, and watching music gigs at Tjikini17, or just having conversations with Pak Dharmawan, the owner of this place, for more than a dozen years. Comfortably located on the calmer side of Central Jakarta, it only takes me about a 15-minute motorcycle ride to visit. This has made me a frequent visitor to this vintage-style restaurant, enjoying their authentic Indonesian cuisines while working or just relaxing.
The pandemic and a shift in my routines have made my visits less frequent now, but I still come once in a while to eat and enjoy the foot traffic on the pedestrian street.
My favorite dish was Pindang Iga, which I think is the best they offer, but today I went for Nasi Liwet and coffee. It was a good meal before my conversation about writing a book with Pak Dharmawan. It’s always nice to find a place to have conversations about anything, and Tjikini17 is my go to. I hope Pak Dharmawan can live long, healthy and happy for many years and conversations to come.
I take Molly with me, and i think she enjoyed the restaurant too.
