Taipei’s quiet, in-between spaces during night walks.
to capture moments when the city feels quiet and timeless.
It was only recently that I discovered a Facebook group called Liminal Photography, which instantly became one of my favorite corners of the internet.
The group mostly features glowing, empty spaces captured in the dark, images that feel both eerie and strangely nostalgic.
Curious about the concept, I looked into its meaning:
A liminal space refers to a transitional or in-between place, a space that exists between what was and what’s next. The word liminal comes from the Latin limen, meaning “threshold.”
Inspired by this idea, I made it a point during my recent trip to Taipei to seek out and capture more liminal spaces during night walks, to capture moments when the city feels quiet and timeless. I focused on alleys, neon lights, and empty cafés, trying to preserve the subtle, in-between atmosphere they held.
Here are some of the results.
